What does it mean when a law firm offers a “free consultation”?

Many lawyers or law firms say they will offer you a “free consultation,” but that term can be confusing. What does “free consultation” mean?

There are many different types of lawyers. Some lawyers charge by the hour or charge a flat fee for their services. Other lawyers work on a contingent fee arrangement, which means they get paid only if they win your case.

Personal injury firms, like Contigo Centro Legal, work on a contingency-fee basis, which means you pay no money upfront. This also means that if we do not win your case, you owe our law firm nothing for the work done on your case.

When law firms say they offer free consultations, that means a lawyer will:

·         Meet with you;

·         Listen to the details about your accident or injury; and

·         Explain your legal rights and options based on the information provided.

All of this is done at no charge to you. This first meeting also gives you a chance to interview the lawyer and experience what it is like working with the law firm. After the meeting, you can decide whether you want to hire the lawyer. And, the lawyer can evaluate the facts of your accident or injury to determine whether you have a case.

Before you meet with a lawyer, always ask whether there is a charge for the initial meeting or consultation. At Contigo Centro Legal, we always offer free consultations with our lawyers.

If you have been injured in an accident, contact Contigo Centro Legal for a free consultation at 816-800-8000, click on the chat button or submit a form through our website. Contact us today.
